What Is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra (pronounced nih-dra) means yogic sleep, but it’s not about falling asleep. It is a meditative experience performed lying down, where the body rests completely while the mind remains gently alert. In this liminal space between wakefulness and sleep, deep layers of the subconscious become accessible. This is where old patterns dissolve. This is where your Sankalpa—the heartfelt intention—takes root. This is where profound healing begins.

Yoga Nidra works with the body’s rhythms, shifting the nervous system out of chronic fight-or-flight and into a state where the mind can rest, emotions recalibrate, and clarity emerges.

During the course, you will learn to surf between wakefulness and sleep, allowing the body to find its natural state of equilibrium (homeostasis) and the breath to balance and quiet. In this state, you can access the subtle flow of energy (prana) in the body. One aim of this practice is to identify and dissolve blockages to the flow of prana.

The practice of Yoga Nidra is deeply restful, rejuvenating, and healing, helping to reduce anxiety, improve cognition, and support restful sleep. Yoga Nidra is accessible to everyone.
